LIMA, OH (WLIO) -Â The Lima Area Concert Band Flute Choir performed their annual showcase Sunday afternoon.
The concert aims to educate the community about the true range of the flute. It's not very often that people have the opportunity to listen to just flutes perform together, and less often that they can hear all the ranges from high to low, including the rare E-flat flute.Â
The program included St. Patrick's Day-themed music, religious tunes, and even a piece called "Railroaded," where flutes mimic the sounds of trains, as a nod to Lima's locomotive history.Â
"We're playing all kinds of music. We have a fanfare; we have "Oblivion," which is just a wonderful kind of jazz piece; we have a beautiful prayer," said Lucy Altstaetter, a conductor and member of the flute choir. "The sound of a flute choir is not unlike an organ, but it's just flutes, and it's absolutely gorgeous."
The flute choir's annual concert has remained a Lima tradition since the late 1970s.
