Lima City Council met for the first time of the year and fills one of their vacant seats.
Carla Thompson was unable to receive enough certified signatures when she filed her petition to run again for the 3rd Ward seat, but neither did anyone else. This means that council had to vote to decide who will sit in the seat. Monday night, councilors voted 6 to 1 with one abstention to appoint Carla Thompson back to the seat. She was one signature shy of the requirement and said it was disheartening to hear that one signature was disqualified.
She said, “It was really sad. It was very disheartening because I had gone through the process twice.”
She continued saying, “I think that the first time around it was just the sheer volume. I had a lot of people helping me, and so I had so many signatures that if one was invalid it wouldn’t have mattered, and this time around I was doing the work on my own not trying to bother a bunch of people.
Her term will run for the next 4 years.
