LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Students at Freedom Elementary got a big surprise today thanks to the Lima Exchange Club.

Lima Exchange Club brings Christmas gifts to Freedom Elementary students

Santa and his helpers brought the kids books, treats, and toys, but also clothing items like hats, gloves, socks, and even a fleece blanket.

For more than 20 years, even before Freedom Elementary was built, the club has given Christmas presents to the young students in the Lima school district. Santa and his helpers brought the kids books, treats, and toys, but also clothing items like hats, gloves, socks, and even a fleece blanket.

The kids and the club members get equally excited about this event each year.

"It's a great feeling every year. It's always fresh; it is always new. The minute that Santa Claus walks in the room, the younger kids in particular just get super excited. They just run up and want to hug him and sit on his lap and things of that nature. We are just blessed as a club, with the help of great people like Nutrien and the Lima Eagles Aerie 370, who have given us major donations to help this whole project go, that we are not only able to give them some fun stuff but some winter clothing items," says Mike Mullen, Lima Exchange Club secretary.
