The Lima Fire Department held a special training in downtown Lima Monday morning.
The LFD and the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center made an agreement for the department to train on rope rigging and rescue scenarios in the rafters at the Civic Center. The idea is to prepare for situations where the department may have to rescue maintenance workers or performers that are rigged up to the rope systems.
While those with the LFD say that the training is a "low frequency, high risk" situation, the training is still important.
"It’s safety, safety, safety - that’s what we’re always preaching," said Dep. Chief Brian Berheide with the LFD. "We need to have back up system after back up system so they can not injury anybody any further, or hurt one of our guys."
The department will continue to train over the next few days.
