Lima Fire responds to electrical fire on Broadway St.

A Lima home received extensive damage from an electrical fire early Thursday afternoon (5/31/18).

The Lima Fire Department responded to 805 Broadway St. just after 1 pm. The fire started in the ceiling of the second floor of the home and worked its way into the attic. Caused by an issue with the electrical wiring, the fire was mostly hidden from crews, forcing them to remove parts of the ceiling and walls in order to tackle the flames.

No one was home at the time of the fire, something that delayed firefighters in getting to the source.

"The house was heavily secured, so forcing entry caused a little bit of a delay," says Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall. "Accumulated contents inside kind of posed a problem, not having someone to tell you about where the fire is located. We had a little bit of a trouble locating the fire since it was hidden in spaces like walls and the ceiling."

The house is still livable but did see around $15,000 in smoke and water damage.
