LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A local service club is asking for your help in providing the necessities for the prom season. The Lima Kiwanis Club is asking for donations of new or gently used prom dresses, shoes, and accessories for their "Diva Den" project. The club has a great collection of items that they give to young ladies to make their dream of going to prom a reality. With the cost of dresses and accessories likely to go up, this is a way the club can support area young women.
“It absolutely does,” says Candy Newland of the Lima Kiwanis Club. “Because not everybody can afford to pay $450 or $600 dollars for a dress to wear for one evening, nor should they feel that they have to do that. So, we have the ability to offer free dresses to girls for the prom through the goodness of the people in the community who donate them to us.”
Donations can be dropped off at Duffy's Dry Cleaners on Shawnee Road now through January 18th.
The "Diva Den" will be held on Saturday, January 21st at the Masonic Center on N. Cole St. There is no charge for the dresses.
