LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — For nearly 15 years, the Lima Kiwanis Club has helped local girls prepare for prom by providing free dresses through its annual Divas Den event.
Students from area high schools stopped by the Divas Den on Saturday to browse hundreds of donated dresses. The girls were able to try on different styles to find the perfect fit before taking a dress home at no cost. Organizers say the goal of the program is to ensure every student can attend important school dances, even as the cost of clothing and other expenses continues to rise.
“These are really big events for high school girls, and they get to come in shop. They get to take home a beautiful dress and feel beautiful for that event and not pay a dime for it. Donations are the lifeblood of what we do. We couldn't have this event if we didn't get the donations of dresses. So, Duffy's Cleaners is one of our partners. They take dresses donated year-round. So, if you're going through those closets, basements, and you got some dresses, please bring them in, so we can help the community better,” says Ann Meiring, Lima Kiwanis’s Divas Den.
The Lima Kiwanis Club also hosts a Divas Den event in September to help students find dresses for homecoming. Organizers encourage people to watch the club’s Facebook page for the date and time of that event.
