LIMA, OH (WLIO) - With Labor Day weekend upon us, law enforcement agencies will be out in full force looking for impaired drivers, but they won't be the only ones.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving was established on September 5th, 1980, and 42 years later they are still working to stop impaired drivers from being on the roads. Nationally, the group has helped pass 2,300 anti-impaired driving and underage drinking laws. The Lima Chapter of MADD is looking for new members and you don't have to be a mom to join.

"It was founded by a mother but over time we have come to understand that every single person who has been affected by this crime and by this violent act can be a part. So it's fathers and brothers, cousins, friends, community members, human beings who don't want to see that tragedy happen to another person," explained Shaunna Basinger, Lima Allen County Safe Community Coalition.
The Lima Chapter of MADD will host their annual "Top Cop" awards which honor officers who have saved lives by stopping an impaired driver on Tuesday, September 6th.
