LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima Memorial Health System welcomes students from around the region to experience careers in the healthcare field.

Wednesday night's open house kickstarted the "Exploring" program for the year. High school students will get to participate in hands-on demonstrations and talk to current healthcare professionals one-on-one.  Teens can attend as many or as few nights as they like.

The goal is to teach them just how many different career paths you can find in a hospital, the educational requirements for each, and help them make an informed decisions about the options they might want to pursue.

If a student does decide the healthcare industry is where they want to be, "Exploring" can open a lot of doors for them.

"There's many students that participated in the program last year who we actually have had as high school interns here or job shadowed, and some who have even become employees here at the hospital. So it's clear that it is having an impact on our health system and the local community," explained Lauren Lammers of Lima Memorial Health System's human resources department.
