LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima Memorial Health System marks the anniversary of when it got its current name.
Back in 1933, Lima City Hospital was renamed Lima Memorial Hospital on Memorial Day, to honor those who served in the United States Armed Services. As part of the Health System's yearlong 125th anniversary celebration, they rededicated the hospital. Thanks to donations by area residents, Lima City Hospital was built as a 7-bed hospital in 1899, serving 109 patients that first year. Now Memorial serves thousands of patients a year, thanks to their investment in innovations to provide the care their patients need right here in the Lima region.
“When you talk about the great care, that’s what we provide in terms of staffing. But we are also very innovative in terms of robotic surgery. We have state-of-the-art with our heart program. So, we brought a lot of those things to the community that allows us to make people stay here for local care as they continue to have that need. And we will be here for another 125 years,” says Mike Swick, Pres. and CEO of Lima Memorial Health System.
Mayor Sharetta Smith issued a proclamation and a new commemorative painting was unveiled for the rededication.
