The Lima chapter believes that the new law, which allows qualifying adults to carry a firearm without the same requirements as a CCW permit, is too loose. With the amount of gun violence that the city has seen in the last year, the NAACP says that they believe this new law could create new concerns in Lima and that people of color could be treated unfairly.

"We also think it's bad to pass a law that does not require people to receive proper and necessary training if they are going to participate in this freedom. Implementation of this law could set people up to have a whole lot of legal issues," stated Ron Fails, NAACP Lima Chapter president.

The Lima Chapter also has a message for young people to help avoid violence.

"You feel like like, you feel frustrated, your under the influence of whatever and you feel big and bad, go take this to the boxing ring. You know you have the option, we have smash houses all throughout Ohio where you go and you break glasses, you know you can throw things for $30 an hour, or the axe room in Delphos, you know, we have different things where there's other boxing rings and go the gym and blow off a little smoke," expressed Amber Basares, NAACP Lima Chapter executive board member.

The new law was signed by Governor Mike DeWine on June 13th.
