LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - One organization has been providing much needed medical equipment to developing countries around the world for more than four decades.

Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad, known as MESA, is a project of Rotary District 6600, which includes the Lima Rotary Club. The group formed in 1981 and began gathering hospital beds, cribs, incubators, blood pressure cuffs and other medical equipment - all equipment that no longer met US regulations but can still saves lives in other countries.

"These items have a finite life span in the United States because of insurance and other government regulations, but they're still fine, and they still work, and we can give them a new life in another country," said Randy Box, MESA volunteer Rotarian.

Rotary District 6600 owns a warehouse in Fostoria where medical and educational equipment is stored until they are ready to ship. Box does say they are seeing an increase in shipping costs to get the needed supplies to their destination.
