LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Texas Roadhouse is helping give a pick-me-up to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or have finished their treatment.
This is the third year that the Lima location of Texas Roadhouse has donated gift cards to the Lima Memorial Women's Health Center to hand out to patients. This year, they donated just over $1,500 worth of gift cards, and the money was raised from donations from their customers, in exchange for free appetizers or a t-shirt.
"Our community is absolutely what makes us, so it feels so good that they were able to help us give back to such a charitable cause," said Alyssa Bateson, marketing assistant at Texas Roadhouse Lima. "So our staff members and their family members, some of them were diagnosed with breast cancer so it feels really good to give back."
"It makes me feel really good that there are people out there in our community who are willing to give and give from their heart and give to someone that they've never met before, because it may be small to them but it's huge to the patients when they get those gift cards. They know someone out in the community is thinking of them, someone that they've never met before and is willing to give back unconditionally to them," said Dr. Darlene Weyer, director of Lima Memorial Health System's Women's Health Center.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. It's recommended that women get a yearly mammogram starting at age 40 to catch breast cancer early when it is most treatable.
