Local record store celebrates National Record Store Day

People all around the nation traded their MP3s and headphones for a more nostalgic music experience.

For the 11th year, record stores across the country celebrated National Record Store Day. People started lining up at Groamy's CDs & Tapes on Robb Ave. hours before the store opened. Groamy's got in on all the action with an all-day event featuring seven local bands performing. A big draw to the day is the tradition of some major musical artists dropping a limited amount of exclusive vinyls that almost immediately gain collector's status. It has become the biggest day for record stores, especially as vinyl has seen somewhat of a rebound in popularity.

"A lot of the kids are really embracing vinyl which is great, you know, I'm just happy they're buying a tangible item instead of getting their music off the internet," says store owner "Groamy". "And now cassettes are starting to come back, too. We jokingly say that National Record Store Day makes Black Friday look like Typical Tuesday, although I know a lot of it is because of the exclusive releases but it's also you'll find people that are hanging out here all day."

There were tons of vendors and door prizes at Groamy's as well. The big store of the day being tickets to see the band Stone Sour at the Clyde Theater in Fort Wayne.
