RUSSELLS POINT, OH (WLIO) - As the Indian Lake community continues to rebuild, Lulu's at the Lake is giving them a little break to celebrate Easter.
Lulu's at the Lake is hosting a weekend Easter celebration to give families a little quality time together and take their minds off of the past couple of weeks. Kids could color eggs, get their photos taken with Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny, and watch a magician perform. There were also free books and toys and a tent to pick up any supplies like clothes or cleaning products that a family might need.
The diner was spared from the damage caused by the March 19th tornado, but the owners have kept the location closed through next week to do their part in the recovery efforts.
"I think the biggest thing was we wanted to treat the community like we would want to be treated. If we were in this situation, what would we want? We would want a hot meal, we would want a safe place to go, we would want a little bit of normalcy in the chaos that's going on out there. So we just set that goal and stuck to it," said Amy Musso, one of the owners of the Lulu's chain.
The owners added that the surrounding communities have more than done their part to help them help the people of Indian Lake.
"We sent a message out to all of our customers at our diners and we had a flood of support, an insane amount of support," Amy explained. "We thought that our friend would be able to do one twenty foot trailer load and do a swoop around all the diners and bring us the supplies. Needless to say..."
"I think we've had several," added co-owner Justin Russo. "We had eight at least," Amy agreed.
"I mean, we were able to fill a 20 by 40 tent in one day," Justin continued.
Lulu's at the Lake will continue the Easter festivities on Sunday with free hot meals all day, egg hunts, and hundreds of Easter baskets for the kids.
