A shooting in Lima last Friday morning has turned into a murder investigation after the victim succumbs to his injuries Tuesday morning.
Lima Police report that Gregory Stewart, 53, died this morning at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
Stewart was shot once in the head at 6:53a.m. on Friday at a home on Harrison Avenue.
Information led police to a suspect at a Franklin Street address where they took Antwan Secession, 28, into custody.
Originally charged with felonious assault, Lima Police Lt. Jim Baker says that charge has now been changed to murder.
Secession was in Lima Municipal Court this afternoon in front of Judge Rickard Workman. He was officially charged with murder, a felony one, and if found guilty could face 15 years to life in prison.
The judge set Secession's bond at $1 million based on Secession having a felony record and several failures to appear to prior court hearings with one as recent as January 2011.
Secession not happy with the bond set, as well as family and friends in the gallery. There were several outbursts in the courtroom as they were leaving and the judge ordered a recess until they were escorted outside. Police officers stood outside the municipal court building until they were off the premises.
A preliminary hearing for Secession is set for October 12 at 9:30a.m.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting. With two murders last week, it brings the homicide total in Lima this year to five.
