MERCER COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) - The Celina Fire Department conducted a controlled burn Sunday afternoon. As part of an exercise for the Mercer County Fire School, the Celina Fire Department acquired and prepped a house to conduct live fire training.
They walked the local firefighters through some of the scenarios and stages of fire they might come across on scene.
The departments rotated between groups, starting in the upstairs of the structure and working their way down before burning the building when they were finished. They walked the local firefighters through some of the scenarios and stages of fire they might come across on scene.
"The standard actually tells us we're only allowed to burn in one room at a time, and we can't use live fire victims, so it's primarily hose advancement and extinguishment. We started with the upstairs, now we're working on the downstairs this afternoon. We do have some mannequins that we can simulate some rescues, but for right now, we're primarily worried about hose advancement and fire extinguishment," said Jon Schumm, lieutenant with the Celina Fire Department.
Celina fire officials also thanked the other county fire departments for helping out during the exercise.
