CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) - April is Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month, and the Mercer and Auglaize County Boards of Developmental Disabilities teamed up once again to host the Autism Resource Fair.
At the fair, 26 community vendors educated families and caregivers who support someone with autism about the services available to them.
At the fair, 26 community vendors educated families and caregivers who support someone with autism about the services available to them. Those resources range from remote support services to behavioral and speech therapies, as well as assistance in finding employment. Because autism can be presented differently from person to person, having a wide variety of resources readily available is important for families.
“Autism looks very different in everyone. It can present differently in each person, so if you met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism, so we need a variety of resources. What works for one person might not work for another,” says Jessica Baltes, Transitions Specialist, Mercer County Board of DD.
This is the second year for the fair, which saw significant growth from its inaugural event in 2024, when just 10 vendors participated.
