CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — Tri Star Career Compact students had the chance to explore local job opportunities Friday.

58 companies set up booths, giving juniors and seniors the opportunity to speak directly with employers and learn more about what is available in the area.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Crown Equipment Corp. and Grand Lake Health System were among those taking part. The first half of the fair focused on Tri Star juniors and seniors. Later in the day, it opened to the public and students from other schools.

Educators say these events are important for students to practice the soft skills they’ll need in the workforce.

“I just feel like our students don't have enough opportunity these days to really interact with adults and for them to be able to come and for us to really work through that with them. You know, how do you look somebody in the eye, you know, how do you shake their hand? What is a good handshake? And then we really try to provide them with even just some starter questions.,” said Mandy Diller, career awareness and adult education coordinator at Tri Star Career Compact.

Diller said many students have gone on to secure full-time jobs after graduation because of relationships they built during the job fairs.
