Michigan man ruled competent and pleaded guilty to Bluffton bank heist

A lot unfolded in court surrounding a Michigan man and a 2014 bank heist. Brian Matheny returned to Allen County Common Pleas Court where he was ruled competent to stand trial. Matheny had been getting treatment at the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital since 2015. After being deemed fit for trial, Matheny then decided to change his plea to guilty for aggravated robbery. Matheny held up the Chase Bank in Bluffton in October 2014, giving tellers a note that threatened an explosion if he wasn't given money. After a chase on I-75, Matheny got out of his car and dropped a Molotov Cocktail. Police put the flames out and he was arrested. He will be held at the hospital for competency maintenance until sentencing in early January 2020.
