SHELBY COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - An autistic 17-year-old boy from Shelby County has been found safe after running away Tuesday night.
Shelby County Sheriff James Frye's Office reports that Braiden Barnes was located around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning by the Tipp City Police Department.

Barnes' father said that, around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Braiden had left the residence on State Route 47 through a window. The father chased after him but lost sight.
Assisting the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in the overnight search were the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Sidney Police & Fire, Anna Fire, BCI, an OSP air unit, and multiple K9 teams. An investigation is ongoing.
January 8, 2025, press release from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office: On January 7, 2025, at 8:31 P.M., deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to a resident in the 8,000 block of State Route 47 on a report of a missing/runaway juvenile. Information gathered from responding units revealed that the child left the residence through a window, with the father giving chase but losing sight of the child. The father contacted the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at this time.
During the search, it was discovered that the 17-year-old suffers from autism. A search of the area was conducted with the assistance from the Ohio State Patrol, Sidney Police Department, Sidney Fire Department, Anna Police Department, Fort Loramie EMS, BCI, and the Ohio State Patrol Air Unit. Multiple K9 teams were also used in the search. An endangered child alert was issued for Shelby County and surrounding counties.
At approximately 7:29 A.M., the Shelby County Sheriff's Office was notified that the Tipp City Police Department located the juvenile in their jurisdiction. The investigation is ongoing.
