The boyhood home of Neil Armstrong will soon join the hundreds of other locations in Ohio that are recognized by the Ohio Historical Markers program.
The home, which is located on West Benton Street in Wapakoneta, is just weeks away from having an Ohio Historical Marker placed in its front lawn. The Wapakoneta Rotary paid for the marker and will be part of the ceremony for its installation, which the public is invited to attend. Those with the Auglaize County Historical Society say that the marker is another great way to connect Neil Armstrong with his hometown.
"We have the museum here and that honors Armstrong and all the Ohioans who went into space, but it’s wonderful to actually connect that story - I think that that’s part of the romance, the beauty of the story that Neil came out of this small town in Ohio and became the first man to walk on the moon," said Rachel Barber, Administrator for the Auglaize County Historical Society.
The ceremony is on November 26th at 1 p.m.
