LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It's that time of year to start thinking about those who have gone above and beyond in their lives.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2024 Jefferson Awards for public service. It's a chance to recognize individuals for their hard work in making their community a better place. The Jefferson Awards is a national program to acknowledge the power of volunteerism and the difference it can make.
"Some of the winners in the past or some of the nominations have started programs from working with seniors or the elderly to working with school systems and feeding folks. We have those they may be someone in the community who goes out and, we talked about shoveling snow, maybe that's some young person that goes out and takes care of all their neighbors. We're looking for anyone that again gives effort of their time and efforts to better our community," explained Chris Jackson, Jefferson Awards for public service.
Nomination forms can be found at https://www.unitedwaylima.org/ or their office at 616 South Collett Street, Lima, OH 45805. They are looking for adults and youth from Allen, Auglaize, Putnam, Van Wert, Hardin, and Hancock Counties. Nominations are due by February 21st. There will be up to 8 adult and 4 youth winners with one picked to continue to the national awards ceremony on March 26, 2024.
