LIMA,OH (WLIO) - Three men running for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate came to Lima to convince the local party that they are the candidate for the job.
The Allen County Republican Party invited Frank LaRose, Matt Dolan, and Bernie Moreno to speak at their annual BBQ Rally. Secretary of State LaRose says he is running because he believes the country needs saving and he is ready to be a workhorse for Ohio in the Senate.
“It’s a body where 100 Americans come together, they are on 6-year terms. They should have the chance to get to know each other,” says LaRose. “Of course, I would never compromise on my values and core beliefs. But learning how to work together with people to solve problems, to me is second nature. That is exactly what we need to see more of in the U.S. Senate. So, we can balance our budgets, we can cut our taxes, secure our southern border and we can defend our allies around the world like the state of Israel.”
State Senator Dolan says his experience in Columbus will be beneficial on a national level, as the national debt continues to rise along with the debt ceiling.
“I have been Finance Chairman four times in the state of Ohio, and I have balanced those budgets four times,” says Dolan. “So, I know when you go to Washington, you don’t spend more money than the revenues brought in and you look to see the money we are spending is efficiently and effectively spent. Is it making a difference, if it’s not you cut it and that’s the kind of attitude I am going to bring. I also believe that American needs to be strong in this world.”
As a businessman, Moreno has never held public office and he believes that a political outsider is needed in Washington D.C.
“We know it’s not normal to allow 8 million people come into our country illegally. We know it’s not normal to rack up $33.5 trillion in debt. We know it’s not normal to kill American energy and beg other countries for oil. We know it’s not normal to take money from America and give it to countries that hate us,” says Moreno. “But people here in Ohio, business people, ordinary people who just care about this country, need to go to D.C. to bring that outsider perspective that is desperately needed in Washington D.C.”
Moreno, Dolan, and LaRose will face off in the March 2024 Primary election.
