"Open Wall" exhibit at ArtSpace will give emerging artists the chance to show off their work

June 1, 2024, Press Release by ArtSpace/Lima: ArtSpace is excited to introduce its inaugural 'Open Wall' event, offering a unique opportunity for emerging artists to exhibit their work in a professional gallery setting.

The idea started with the news about a 51-year-old exhibition technician and self-proclaimed ‘freelance artist’ who smuggled one of his paintings into the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany, on February 26th , and hung it on a wall in one of the galleries. After security discovered the newest addition to the museum’s collections, they promptly took down the display and the man was fired.

The freelance artist took a chance at presenting his work in a place where art observers would be and in the company of other great artists. Even though he got fired, we were amused at his bravado and the fact he wanted his ’15 minutes of fame’. And then we wondered, are there more people who want the opportunity to put their work in an art gallery so the public can see it, and to be in the company of other artists?

Those thoughts gave us an idea. Much like the well-known ‘open mic’ events, ArtSpace is having an ‘Open Wall’ event from July 9 through July 19. Inspired by act of a freelance artist in Germany, ArtSpace aims to provide a legitimate platform for artists seeking to share their creativity with the public. The exhibit will feature 20 artists displaying their artwork in a professional setting.

This initiative is designed to foster artistic expression and community engagement, much like the popular 'open mic' events for performers.

The opening reception will be on Tuesday, July 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
