Operation Dry Water hits Indian Lake

This Indiana boater admitted to having a few drinks while out on Indian Lake Sunday.

Luckily for him he wasn't legally under the influence.

Over the past few days, officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Watercraft Division have been involved in a national safety campaign called Operation Dry Water.

Officer Kevin Peters says that they are doing more than just targeting the driver. They are also targeting the passengers who may have been drinking.

Many boaters probably don't know this but alcohol is a not allowed on state park lakes.

According to the ODNR, alcohol is involved in about one of every three boating accidents and trying to drive a boat under the influence is just as bad as driving a car.

No word on how effective Operation Dry Water was this year, but last year the ODNR contacted more than 19 hundred boaters and made eight arrests for boating while intoxicated during the weekend long effort.
