OTTAWA, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Ottawa Presbyterian Church held a special service and lunch Sunday to honor its 180th anniversary.
The congregation was founded in 1846, and the church was built 21 years later, according to church officials. It has received numerous renovations since, with the most recent coming in 2012 to add a middle aisle to the worship area.
Members joined in the church's service to honor the 180 years it has been in service. Lunch was offered after the service, and former pastors with the church attended to honor the milestone. Officials with the church said it has been able to grow and thrive thanks to the community's support.
"The community supports Ottawa Presbyterian Church when we have community events, and when we share God's message of love and care for the community at large, we work as a team to glorify God and to edify others in faith," said Gillian Holzhauser-Graber, OPC media coordinator.
Holzhauser-Graber said the church has given back to the community through events and service projects, including their work with the Ottawa Food Pantry, and that it has made changes to make the church more accessible and to cater to individual members. The church hopes to continue serving the community as it approach its 200th anniversary.
