WAPAKONETA, OHIO (WLIO) - People in Auglaize County came together to promote an important message that suicide is never the answer.

Out of the Darkness walk to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention

Fisher says it is important to remove the stigma of suicide and adds that if you need help, talk to somebody.

Saturday they held an “Out of the Darkness Walk” to raise awareness for suicide prevention. The event was organized by Teresa Fisher, who lost her brother-in-law to suicide, and she wanted others who struggled after a suicide loss or are struggling with mental health issues to come together to see that they are not alone.

“Seeing all these people out here today is more than is more than I could ever expect. I am thrilled, and I told a few people through some tears, my heart is happy. And just have people, that I have no idea who they are, are coming up and hugging me and telling me thank you. It means everything,” says Teresa Fisher, Auglaize Co. Out of the Darkness Walk.

“You are wanted here. We want you here. Your family, your friends—they need you. So, I hope if there are those that are here that are struggling, they see that they are not alone and they are loved,” adds Fisher.

They want to continue the walk in the future and hope to make it bigger next year. This year's event raised around $11,000.
