LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - Early detection can be key to seeing if your child is developmentally on track. That is why the Allen County Board of DD and Rhodes State College teamed up to put on another community developmental screening for kids’ birth to 5 years old. The kids could be tested in nine different areas, including speech, motor skills, and hearing, and parents can track their child's progress and address any concerns early on.

“80% of a child’s brain is developed before age three, so early intervention is the best. If there is a delay or any concerns with a child, obviously the earlier that we can provide that intervention, we know that is a key. So, earlier is best, and we always tell parents, ‘Don’t worry, but don’t’ wait.’ If there is a concern, especially before they start kindergarten or before they start preschool, there are services in Allen County and surrounding counties that are there to help and provide those support. So, we want parents to feel safe and comfortable, so they can ask those questions and get that help,” says Rachael Staley, Dir. of Early Intervention, Allen Co. Board of DD.

There will be another developmental screening held in March at the Marimor School.
