The Better Business Bureau is warning Verizon Wireless customers about a dangerous phishing scam. Solicitations are coming via Verizon text messages asking users to call a New York based number and references U.S. Direct Express, a legitimate debit card program ran by the U.S. Treasury.
When customers dial the number they are asked to provide a credit card number. Phishing scams like this are to gain access to people's financial information and accounts and to steal their identity. You're urged to report this kind of fraud attempt to phishing@verizonwireless.com or call 1-800-922-0204.
