SHELBY COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A Morrow County man was killed this morning in Sidney when he drove into a stopped semi.
The crash happened just after 7 a.m. on I-75, just north of the Fair Road exit. Troopers from the Piqua Post say 29-year-old Damien Webb of Cardington was traveling south on the interstate when he drove into the back of a semitrailer driven by 69-year-old Irwin Hatfield of Anna, who was stopped in traffic because of another crash that was being cleaned up. Webb was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Hatfield was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
August 16, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: PIQUA – The Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred this morning, August 16, at 7:03 a.m., on Interstate 75 southbound just north of the Fair Road exit, Clinton Township, Shelby County.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2019 Ford Transit, operated by Damien Webb, 29, Cardington, was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 just north of the Fair Road exit when it struck the rear of a stationary 2013 Freightliner tractor trailer combination, operated by Irwin Hatfield, 69, Anna. The Freightliner was stopped in traffic due to a separate serious injury crash that occurred earlier this morning. After initial impact with the freightliner, Webb was ejected from the motor vehicle.
Webb succumbed to fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
Hatfield claimed no injuries as a result of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation at this time by the Piqua Post.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the City of Sidney, Ohio Police Department, City of Sidney, Ohio Fire and EMS Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Mayse Towing, and Wrecker’s Towing and Transport LLC.
