ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) — September 19th is POW/MIA Recognition Day, and residents in St. Marys are seeking help to bring their fallen soldier home.

1st Lt. Gene Dennis was shot down in September 28, 1952, during bombing run during the Korean War. He was later declared missing in action. Family members of Dennis have provided a DNA sample in hopes of finding a match among the hundreds of unidentified remains.

So, during Friday night’s St. Marys and Wapakoneta Football game, there will be petitions on hand for people to sign to urge state and federal lawmakers to locate, identify and return the remains of 1st Lt. Dennis to St. Marys. Organizers are hoping to collect 10,000 signatures to submit to lawmakers on the anniversary of his crash on September 28th.
