Prevent Tick Bites As Temps Warm Up

As the weather warms up, mosquitoes become a concern. But health experts say you should also pay attention to ticks.

Tick bites can cause Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. This year, six cases of Lyme disease have already been reported in Ohio. Health officials say Lyme disease incidents have increased in the state every year. Last year, 154 cases were reported. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is not as common.

Health officials say people should wear pants and long sleeves if going out to woodsy areas, or be around tall grass and weeds.

They say you need a stronger repellent for ticks, a 25 DEET solution is recommended. They some symptoms to watch out for are rashes, fevers and aches. If you are concerned about any of those signs, contact your doctor.Â
