LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima City Schools' Liberty Arts Magnet is receiving a $10,500 grant to expand its Guest Artists in Residency program.
The school applied for the TeachArtsOhio Grant at the end of last year and recently learned it was awarded the funding.
The new initiative, called "Project Level Up," will bring artists into the classroom for longer periods of time, giving students more opportunities for hands-on experiences.
Instructors say the program will benefit teachers as well as students by giving them opportunities to explore creativity and incorporate the arts into other areas of learning.
“This next level approach is giving more hands-on experiences, bringing teaching artists into the classroom to create inspirational, transformational experiences for our building, for our students using creativity as a jumping off board in every aspect. So not only will our kids be creating and performing, but our teachers will also have opportunities to explore their own creativity so that we can all be comfortable and more fluid in what the arts have to offer, not just in the arts classroom but as we connect it to every single content area in the school,” said Sara Johnson, an instructor at Liberty Arts.
Johnson said the program will allow the school to strengthen its arts-inspired learning community at Liberty Arts Magnet.
