RUSSELLS POINT, Ohio (WLIO) — A shrine destroyed in the March 2024 Indian Lake tornado is nearing completion.
The new Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Russells Point is scheduled to open to the public next month. Construction crews are finishing concrete work this week. Three bronze informational plaques and a new granite bench replacing one destroyed in the tornado are also being installed.
The shrine's nearly 20-foot-tall fiberglass statue of Mary is scheduled to be placed July 14 after it is blessed by the pastor of St. Mary of the Woods Church. A public dedication is scheduled for Aug. 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The annual Mass at the shrine will return Aug. 15, with events beginning at 4 p.m., Mass from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and a reception to follow. There is no public parking at the shrine, but free shuttle service will be provided from St. Mary of the Woods Church.
