Every dog in the state of Ohio over the age of three months needs to be licensed by January 31st, and on February 1st, the price for a one-year dog tag goes from $22 to $44. In Allen County, dog tags can be purchased in person at the dog warden's office. Besides a one year, you could get a three-year or permanent tag for a higher cost. Once you get your new tags, it is important that you put them on your dog's collar to be effective.

"The dog license hanging on the dog doesn't do much good in the kitchen drawer, but if it is hanging on the dog, anybody that finds that dog can put that tag number in and call the owner, and get them back to the owner," says Julie Shellhammer, Allen Co. Dog Warden. "So, it's super important to have that tag. It's also proof of ownership, If somebody takes the dog from the yard, or the dog gets loose, you have proof of ownership that way too."
