Today marks the 50th anniversary since the infamous Palm Sunday Tornado ripped through Sugar Creek Township in Lima.
For Kay Studer and her family, April 11th, 1965 just seemed like an ordinary and stormy spring evening. But they were wrong.
The family became overwhelmed by the sight of the tornado.
This was one of 47 tornadoes that spanned across six states killing 261 people in their path, including studer's uncle. But when the dust cleared, people began coming together to begin fixing what was torn apart.
Studer recoginizes that memories such as these can prepare today's generation for how to handle times of disaster in a community.
