Rhodes State has the go-ahead for demolition for their downtown project, but it is the green space that could end up holding up the project.
All of the necessary buildings in Town Square have been acquired in order for the Rhodes State Center for Health Sciences Education and Innovation to move forward and demolition is set to start mid-February. But, owners of parcels of green space on the area who have not yet sold their property may hold up the actual construction of the the facility.
"There are four remaining parcels of vacant ground that currently are the subject of eminent domain actions filed by the city," says Tony Geiger, Lima City Law Director. "That's a process mandated by state law. We're following that process and we will continue to do so, and it will be resolved through that process.
Geiger says there is no guessing how long that process may take.
