BATH — St. Marys survived a dramatic finish to defeat Bath 4-3 in penalties and capture the Division IV sectional final on Wednesday.
The teams entered the second half tied 2-2 before St. Marys senior forward Riley Luedeke put the Roughriders ahead 3-2 with a goal off a cross from Braelyn Baker.
Bath battled back in the final seconds, as senior captain Gwyn Foust scored off a corner kick with just 20 seconds remaining to send the match into extra time. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went to a penalty shootout.
Sophomore Jillian Jacobs gave St. Marys a 3-0 edge in the shootout, and Bath’s final attempt missed the mark, sealing the win for the Roughriders.
St. Marys will face Liberty-Benton next Wednesday at Findlay.
