The last buildings on the site of the future downtown Rhodes State College campus will be coming down soon.
Rhodes will demolish Town Square buildings 2 through 8 on March 5, 2018. These are the final buildings that needed to be removed to build the multi-million dollar center for health, sciences, education, and innovation. The demolition of the remaining buildings will have little effect on traffic. The sidewalk by the building will be closed and at most a little of the street will be closed, but it is a big step for the project.
"This should be it as far as the demolition in that part of the square," says Lima City Engineer Kirk Niemeyer. "This is a good milestone and the next step will be the planning and design process on Rhodes' part."
Four green space lots needed for the project are still going through the eminent domain process. Those are set to go through mediation at the end of March 2018.
