The man accused of the death of his girlfriend's baby is trying to get interviews with Lima police detectives thrown out of his trial.
The attorney for 32-year-old Gabriel Salyers is asking the court to suppress interviews with detectives surrounding the death of 18-month-old Jaxxon Sullivan at the beginning of April. Salyers was interviewed on April 1, 2018, after Jaxxon was admitted to the hospital and on April 3, 2018, that the toddler died from his injuries. Salyers asked for a lawyer following the first interview, but according to his attorney John Fisher, Salyers was not thinking clearly when he gave his confession, after being without withdrawal medication for painkillers and cigarettes for a couple of days, plus tactics used by the detectives in the interview room.
"How did it make you feel when they kept telling you that 'We know you are lying'," questioned John Fisher.
"It made me feel like no matter what I said, they were not going to hear me until I said what they wanted me, wanted to hear. You know. No matter how much I said no, no, no. It was one yes to a million no's and when that one yea came out, it was said and done. Nail in the coffin, and that is how it made me feel," answered Salyers.
Judge Reed says he will watch the videos of the interview to determine if they will be used for trial and he will rule on that at a later date. Salyers is charged with aggravated murder, child endangering, and domestic violence.
