A U.S. senator connected with Lima veterans to discuss the passage of an act that will help those exposed to harmful toxins while serving their country.

Sherrod Brown hosted the roundtable and discussed the "Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022", which will secure access to the Department of Veteran Affairs' healthcare and disability benefits for veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals. Some veterans who joined the roundtable were exposed to or affected by burn pits during their military service.

"Their exposure means they came home with illnesses," said Senator Sherrod Brown, D-OH. "Maybe develop five, ten, fifteen years later. We are recognizing that, those illnesses they will get automatically qualify at the VA in Lima or the big hospital in Dayton or Van Wert to get treatment if they get an illness from that exposure."
The act was also named after Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson, a central Ohio veteran who passed away in 2020 from lung cancer due to burn pit exposure.
