Sheriff's Office SUV involved in accident

Sheriff Sam Crish says 18-year-old Trenton Carpenter of Lima was heading south on Cable Road and failed to stop for the red light. His Crown Victoria was hit by deputy Jason Meeker's eastbound Ford Explorer on the passenger side. Meeker's SUV then hit the traffic control signal box at the southeast corner of the intersection. Both drivers were taken to St. Rita's Medical Center and treated and released. Both vehicles had deployed air bags and heavy damage. The crash remains under investigation.

Wednesday, Jan. 27:

An Allen County Sheriff's Office SUV was involved in an accident Wednesday night that shutdown Cable and Elm. According to Sheriff Crish a Sheriff's Office vehicle was involved in an accident and the deputy suffered scrapes or cuts on his hands and was "banged up". The Sheriff's Office SUV was damaged heavily in the front. The SUV hit a pole at the corner of Cable and Elm. The other vehicle was a white car that came to a rest partially on the side walk on Elm Street. Both vehicles had deployed air bags. The Sheriff's Office and the Lima Police Department responded to the accident and blocked off the area. No further information is available at this hour. Occupants of both the vehicles were transported. The Deputy may be kept over night according to Crish. The accident is still under investigation.
