LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - South Science and Technology Magnet students are working together to build their school community through empathy while rejecting bullying.

The student-led “Positive Peer Advocates” participated in the “Start With Hello” initiative. Throughout the week, students hosted various activities, from “Make Someone Smile Monday” to “Talk About It Thursday” and “Free Read Friday,” where students read books about kindness to other classes. Through each activity, the message is simple: See someone alone, reach out and start with hello.

“We hope that more people feel welcome in our school building, able to talk to more people, able to join in on activities, more things like that. It's basically making everybody feel safe and welcome in our school building,” says Dalton Engle, 7th Grade Student at South Sci-Tech.

“Start With Hello” is an initiative led by the nonprofit Sandy Hook Promise.
