Sports betting in Ohio has its first anniversary on New Year's Day

COLUMBUS, OH (WLIO) - Sports betting in Ohio will have its one-year anniversary on New Year’s Day. In its first year, sports betting has generated over $700 million in taxable revenue on $5 billion worth of bets placed statewide. The first month for sports betting was the most active, with just over $1.1 billion in bets placed last January. Most of the tax dollars generated from the revenue will go toward school funding, with the rest used to curb gambling addictions. Opponents to sports betting are concerned that its popularity will lead to a rise in gambling additions, and they stress if you or know of someone might have a problem call the Ohio Problem Gambling Hotline at 800-589-9966
