VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) — Kalida is headed to the district title match after sweeping Continental in straight sets during Saturday’s doubleheader at Van Wert.
In the opening frame, Continental kept it close early. Senior Mallorie Barnhart delivered an ace to pull the Pirates within one, and junior Macie Clemens followed with a strong block at the net. But once Kalida’s size and firepower settled in, the momentum shifted quickly.
Six-foot-four senior and Rutgers commit Malia Romes took over late in the first set, unleashing a dominant kill that helped the Wildcats close it out 25–18.
Kalida carried that energy into the second, racing ahead behind junior Sophia Meyer’s lightning-quick reaction play at the net. The Wildcats rolled to a 25–10 win.
Match point came in the third set, and senior Kendal Krouse slammed home the final kill to secure the sweep — 25–18, 25–10, 25–12.
Kalida now advances to the Division IV district championship in Van Wert on Wednesday.
