St. Charles School says goodbye to principal, priest

Students and faculty at St. Charles Catholic School spent their last day saying goodbye to two of their own. Principal Jan Dornick is retiring this year after working at the school for thirty-one years. Everyone gathered in the gym to present Mrs. Dornick with a poem and special gifts from each grade. They honored their principal with a school-themed song and a rosary made out of balloons. At the end of the rosary, the students released the balloons into the sky. Dornick says it means so much to see everyone come together.

"To see so many kids and parents and staff members recognize you for your service is just so humbling. This has been my home. This is all I know and it's very bittersweet to say goodbye, but just such a blessing to be part of this community," Dornick said.

Father Steve Blum will also be leaving st. Charles this year after being there thirteen years.

"People ask me 'well how do you feel about retirement' and I say I'm kind of yes and no. I'm kind of ready in one way, but in another way I'm not looking forward to it because I'll be missing the parish community, especially the children, and it'll be a whole different change in my life," Father Blum said.

Father Blum will be retiring as a pastor but says he will still be active in the diocese where help is needed.
