For the first time, the weather pushed the “STEAM on the Quad” inside, but that didn’t rain on the excitement the kids had as they visited over 30 different stations to learn about science, technology, and art.

For the first time, the weather pushed the “STEAM on the Quad” inside, but that didn’t rain on the excitement the kids had as they visited over 30 different stations to learn about science, technology, and art. The event is for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, and the hands-on activities were created by local 4H programs, Ohio State Lima departments, student clubs, and local organizations, museums, and businesses to show the students the variety of career opportunities that are available.

“I think that people know they can be a scientist, but people don’t always know what being a scientist means, and here they can see how very different things are in the science and the arts and things that are in the science and the arts. And meet some of our local organizations where they could work someday and remember that this is something that they could do and something that is fun,” says Robin Bagley, Asst. Prof. of evolutionary biology.

This is the 8th year that Ohio State Lima and Charles River Lab in Spencerville have hosted the event.

“The young kids are very excited. It’s clear that some of them don’t really have a strong science background. So, it’s very beneficial to us to educate them and help them understand about the sciences,” adds Rusty Rush, GM, Charles River Labs Spencerville.
