COLUMBUS, Ohio (WLIO) — Recreational marijuana sales in Ohio topped $830 million during the state’s first full year of legal sales.

According to the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control, recreational marijuana sales since legalization began in August 2024 have now exceeded $1 billion. Medical marijuana sales, which have been legal since 2019, surpassed $2.2 billion as of early January.

Changes to Ohio’s marijuana laws are set to take effect in March. Under the new legislation, it will be illegal to bring legally purchased marijuana and marijuana products from other states into Ohio.

The law also lowers the maximum allowable THC concentration in marijuana extracts from 90% to 70% and bans intoxicating hemp products from being sold anywhere other than licensed dispensaries.
