SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - Students at Shawnee Middle School are getting a taste of life after school today at their 6th annual career fair.
The career fair had over 25 booths with area professionals showing students several career paths they can consider for the future. Booths ranged from the Shawnee police and fire departments to photography and Lewis Family McDonald's.
The career fair excites students at Shawnee because it gives them a chance to start to pinpoint career choices they might have in mind and learn a few things about the job market along the way.
"I definitely learned a lot more from nursing than I usually do because my mom is personally a nurse, so I usually talk to her about that stuff, but I did. I learned a lot more here than anything. It was really fun to experience this stuff. Since we're really young at this age to be guessing what our career will be in the future and ideas always change on what we want, it's just kind of a starting point on where we want to be in our future and what inspires us most," said Keely Basil, an 8th grader at Shawnee.
"I've always been interested in the arts, so the arts and a lot of engineering too, so it's two whole different things, but I've always loved the arts, so I've been very interested in those, and then my dad's an engineer, so I take a lot of that from him, and so yeah, I went to chemical engineering, and I thought that was great, but then I went to photography, and that was another thing that I'm like, 'oh, that sounds cool too' so yeah," said Sofia Bravo, 8th grader at Shawnee.
The students also had opportunities to sign up for summer volunteer work and other potential programs that the booths offered.
